NanoBone®
NanoBone® synthetic material offers the dentist a reliable material for bone regeneration. In over 5 years of clinical use with more than 100,000 treatments worldwide, NanoBone® has demonstrated all its qualities. Users have access to various products for specific indications. The synthetic reconstruction material NanoBone® is available in granular or block form. An entire technology – NanoBone® technology – offers a wide range of products that simplify daily work in the dental practice. Long-term studies confirm all the good reasons to choose NanoBone®.
Granular NanoBone® is available for daily surgical use, depending on the indication and defect size, in very small granules (0.6 x 2 mm) or small granules (1 x 2 mm). To treat various indications with specific products, NanoBone® technology provides granules with differentiated resorption kinetics. Granular NanoBone® is the first product of NanoBone® technology and was launched in 2005. Users swear by its ease of use. By mixing it with the patient's blood, a pasty consistency is obtained, which can be easily inserted, with appropriate instruments, where needed.
Non-sintered
All NanoBone® technology products are produced using the sol-gel method at 700° C. Thanks to this low temperature, the material is not sintered, presenting a highly porous surface with pores ranging from nanometers to micrometers. Autologous blood proteins penetrate these nanopores, covering their entire internal surface. Our body recognizes NanoBone® as an endogenous element, which triggers the natural remodeling process.
Osteoconduction
Harms et al. attribute a high osteoconductive potential to NanoBone®. The augmentation material acts as a guardrail. With the formation of a protein-rich organic matrix, the internal growth of connective tissue and blood vessels is promoted.
Götz et al. have demonstrated the osteoinductive nature of NanoBone®. Attraction and differentiation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts could be demonstrated. In animal experiments with Göttingen minipigs, ectopic bone formation was observed.
In addition to bone substitute materials previously available on the market, NanoBone® technology represents an entirely new group. Nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (HA) is embedded in a silica gel (SiO2). This nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite corresponds approximately to that found in autologous bone. The silica gel promotes collagen and bone formation.
With production using the sol-gel method at temperatures up to 700° C, the material is not sintered and features pores ranging from nanometers to micrometers. The potential of nanotechnology is exploited with HA nanocrystals and interconnected nanopores. Blood proteins cover the entire internal surface (approx. 84 m²/g), and the body recognizes the biomaterial almost as an endogenous element.
Within the first two weeks, the silica gel matrix transforms into an organic matrix. Through this process, each NanoBone® granule now corresponds to the extracellular matrix of bone tissue.
NanoBone® promotes natural remodeling. The attraction and differentiation of osteoblasts and osteoclasts strongly suggest an osteoinductive biomaterial character.
