The incision or trauma site must be clean and dry before applying the adhesive. Make sure the wound edges are easily approximated. (Fig. 1)
Screw the applicator tip clockwise onto the threaded tube until the applicator is securely fastened to the tube. Once positioned on the tube, the applicator will pierce the aluminum membrane, allowing the adhesive to flow out. (Fig. 2)
Hold the “Micro” version tube with the tip pointing downward, and the 1 ml version horizontally. Gently squeeze the tube from the bottom until the adhesive appears from the applicator. Keep the device away from the patient until you are ready to apply the adhesive. (Fig. 3)
While holding the skin edges together, apply the adhesive using a back-and-forth motion, squeezing the tube gently and continuously as you distribute the adhesive over the wound site. Continue holding the wound edges together until the adhesive becomes tacky—typically less than 20 seconds. A smooth, even layer of adhesive is recommended. (Fig. 4)
Once the adhesive is fully cured (not sticky), you can cover the wound site with a secondary dressing. If you decide to use a secondary dressing, do NOT apply it until the adhesive area is completely dry. Applying a dressing with the adhesive still tacky could cause the adhesive to come off when the secondary dressing is removed, potentially causing wound dehiscence. (Fig. 5)
Dispose of the device according to the normal protocols used. (Fig.6)
