WHAT IS OZONE?

Ozone is an inorganic molecule found in nature, with the chemical formula O3. Each molecule contains 3 oxygen atoms instead of 2. It is a bluish gas, with a pungent odour that occurs naturally in the atmosphere. Ozone usually forms as a result of electrical discharges released by lightning during a thunderstorm, which gives the air its characteristic fresh and clean smell.

HOW IS OZONE GENERATED?

A high-voltage current discharge is passed through a gas stream containing oxygen: the high-voltage energy splits an oxygen molecule (O2) into two oxygen atoms (O), which recombine with normal oxygen molecules (O2) to form ozone (O3). Since ozone is highly reactive and has a short half-life, it is very difficult to store and transport: this is why it must be generated in situ for immediate use.

OZONATED WATER AS A DISINFECTANT

Ozone is a powerful oxidising agent that produces a broad-spectrum biocide which, once dissolved in water, kills all bacteria and viruses. At appropriate concentrations, ozone can completely inactivate most enveloped viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2. Ozone gas has a high oxidation potential that is 1.5 times greater than chloride when used as an antimicrobial agent against bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa.

MAXIMUM SAFETY IN THE USE OF ULTRASOUND

OzoActive produces ozone and injects it directly into the irrigation tubes of PIEZOSURGERY® devices and ultrasonic devices, generating ozonated water with a concentration ranging between 0.011 mg and 0.079 mg/litre. At this concentration, the water has a biocidal effect.5 The flow of ozonated water reduces the risk of contamination from fungi, bacteria and viruses through the aerosol, without leaving chemical residues: in a few seconds, ozone is transformed into oxygen. The OzoActive device has been developed to generate ozonated water at the ideal concentration for patient and operator. It can be applied in all types of interventions, even for longer treatments.

DEDICATED PROGRAMS

OzoActive can be used with both PIEZOSURGERY® touch or white devices, and with ultrasonic scalers such as combi touch or multipiezo. The corresponding program will be indicated on the display as Oral Surgery or Prophylaxis.

SYNCHRONOUS USE

The OzoActive ozone level must be selected according to the irrigation level of the mectron device. The irrigation levels of the mectron device and the OzoActive ozone level are synchronised: level 3 of the PIEZOSURGERY® will correspond to level 3 of the OzoActive.
