Commercially available nano-ceramic reinforced composite blocks (with the exception of VITA™ Enamic) are produced using the same methods as direct-fill composites used for restorations, i.e., by mixing a silanized filler with a synthetic resin. The resulting composite is then formed into a block or mold and polymerized. The main drawbacks are the uneven distribution of filler particles and the increased risk of trapped air leaving voids. The blocks... KATANA AVENCIA , on the other hand, uses the exclusive methodology of Filler Pressing and Monomeric Infiltration developed by Koichi Okada and its collaborators. What makes this methodology so unique is the way the filler is treated. Nanometric silica fillers, pre-treated with silane and combined with nanometric alumina fillers, are densely compressed into a block which is then impregnated with resin. Finally, the blocks are thermopolymerized to ensure the highest degree of polymerization. The blocks produced in this way have a dense, homogeneous structure and are practically void-free.

Surface regularity

Thanks to the high filler content, with particles no larger than 40 μm, the blocks KATANA AVENCIA are not only resistant but also extremely easy to mill . Thanks to the smooth surface of the result, the subsequent polishing phase couldn't be easier.

Resistance

In fact, the KATANA AVENCIA pads showed virtually no loss of shine even after tens of thousands of brushing cycles during the tests.
